Cancer support continues throughout coronavirus

Type: Offered

Maggie’s centres in Wales, in the grounds of Velindre Hospital and Singleton Hospital are no longer seeing people face to face, but the charity is still providing free practical and emotional support to people living with cancer, as well as family and friends, at what is an incredibly difficult time. Anyone can call or email for cancer support. Contact the team in Cardiff on 029 2240 8024 or cardiff@maggies.org or the team in Swansea on 01792 200000 or swansea@maggies.org

Sarah Taylor, is now regularly speaking to a Maggie’s cancer support specialist by phone and email. She said: “I am more worried about my situation than ever and was devastated when I thought I might not be able to get my usual support at Maggie’s. And the same for my daughter who has also been supported by the team there. Knowing I can still speak to the team by phone gets me through the day, I don’t know how I would cope without them.”

Maggie’s Centre Head for Cardiff, Sam Holliday said: “We understand how the current situation increases stress and anxiety levels for people undergoing treatment, as well as family and friends, but we are here with them offering practical and emotional support to help them cope with the challenging times ahead.  We have been supporting people with cancer for 25 years and our professional staff are here with you now.”

Since Maggie’s opened their first centre in 1996, the charity has developed a programme of support that is proven to help people with cancer and their loved ones take back control.

Maggie’s relies almost entirely on voluntary donations to be able to offer this high quality, professional support.
