Updates from Newport City Council

Take a look at the latest business news and available support from Newport City Council below.

Newport Business Grant Funding

Newport City Council is offering more financial assistance to local businesses thanks to funding from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), part of its Levelling Up agenda.

For several years, the council has given grants to small and medium-sized businesses in the city to help with start-up and other costs and this is continuing. Grants of 50% of net costs up to £2,500 are available for businesses outside the city centre and grants up to £5,000 for those located within the city centre.

However, the new accelerated growth grants programme will build on what has been a very successful scheme by offering grants of between £25,000 and £75,000 towards capital investment.

The accelerated growth programme is aimed at well-established or new companies to set up premises or for existing city businesses to accelerate their plans for growth.

The grants will be offered as match funding for equipment that is essential for the establishment of a new business or enables the business to grow substantially.

Potential applicants are being invited to get in touch with the council’s expert business services team first who can talk them through the process and assess their eligibility. The scheme is due to run until early 2025.

What’s on in Newport?

What’s On City of Newport is a new events portal where you can explore all the amazing events Newport has to offer – together in one place. Browse them all, or search for what excites you most – the choice is yours.

Newport has a growing reputation as host of major events such as the marathon, and we have some great regular events like the Food Festival and the countdown to Christmas. But there is so much more going on across the city.

The council, working with partner organisations, has created this new events portal for exploring all that Newport has to offer, one we can all contribute to, and we can all use. From talks and walks, live music and performances, to late-night shopping, business events, community events, and job fairs.

If you are hosting an event in Newport, make sure you submit details on the site. It will then be available for all to see.
