Cardiff Met Students’ Union and Dragon Taxi’s/Veezu has been operating the ‘Safe Taxi Scheme’ in partnership since 2015.
The scheme is designed to be an emergency safeguard for students who are stuck in Cardiff with no way to get home. The scheme aims to ensure that all Cardiff Met students have a way to return home safely at the end of the night.
The partnership has been a positive addition to the number of safety initiatives run by the Students’ Union and as the scheme continues it has the potential to ensure many more students are kept safe in the city.
Students’ Union Chief Executive, Will Fuller commented on the Partnership:
“Our relationship with Veezu has been mutually beneficial in ensuring our members are safe in the city whilst promoting a recognised brand to our student population.”
Intended for emergency use only, students from the participating universities can book a taxi journey with the Dragon Taxis (part of the Veezu group), to the value of £20 and pay via their Student Union within 48 hours.
By phoning 029 2033 3333 and quoting ‘Safe Taxi Scheme’, and as long as a student has a valid student card as proof of ID, a vehicle will be sent to stranded students as a matter of priority.
The end location must be a student residential address, halls of residence, police station or hospital.
Members of each Student’s Union are fully trained to offer support and advice about the service and take payment.
Talking about the partnership with the university, Sally Krouma, Marketing Manager at Veezu, said:
“We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate a decade of successfully running this incredible scheme in partnership with Cardiff Met, and look forward to its bright and promising future.
“At Veezu, our aim is to support students as they navigate life in Cardiff, and with this scheme, we are proud to offer the assurance that they will get home safely in any circumstance.
“It’s been brilliant working with Cardiff Met to implement the scheme. The Students Union team are always very receptive to our offering and are an absolute joy to work with. It’s wonderful that we can work together to provide safety for students in Cardiff.”
