New export champions for Wales revealed

The UK Government announced nine new export champions for Wales to mark International Trade Week (6-10 November).

The export champion community was created by the Department of Business and Trade in response to calls from businesses for exporting support from fellow businesses.

In a voluntary role, the champions, who represent a wide range of sectors, will encourage other Welsh businesses to export by sharing their stories, providing advice on how to enter new overseas markets and by taking part in trade events.

Among the champions are Chamber members Will Crawford of Concrete Canvas and Kevin Taylor MBE of Indigo and TXO who will be supporting manufacturing and tech businesses respectively.

Pontyclun-based manufacturer Concrete Canvas manufactures four award-winning products which are exported around the world: Concrete Canvas®, CCX™, CC Hydro™ and CC Shelters™. The innovative company was recently recognised at the 2023 British Chamber of Commerce Chamber Business Awards, winning the Problem Solver category for transforming the market that it operates in.

Indigo Group and TXO Systems Ltd specialise in telecom network hardware, asset management services and infrastructure, serving customers in over 150 countries around the world.

In addition to our two Chamber members and Richard Pring of Wales Interactive, winner of the Digital Business of the Year award at the Wales Business Awards 2022, the new export champions also include: Elin Haf Davies, Aparito; Shoko Doherty, Celtic English Academy; Neil Gregory, GOS Engineering; Gareth Lewis, Delio; Jem Skelding, Naissance; and Lucy Young, Amplyfi.

They join the export champion community in their mission to promote the benefits of exporting. The 2022 export champions include: Kamal Ali, My Salah Mat; Rosie Davies, Rees Machinery Group; Stephen Davies, Penderyn Distillery; Paola Dyborski-Bryant, Dr Zigs; Alison Lea-Wilson, Halen Môn/Anglesey Sea Salt; John Pattinson, Air Covers; Tee Sandhu, Samosa Co; and Sina Yamani, Yoello.

As well as the peer-to-peer support offered by the export champions, businesses in Wales can also access specialist export support through Welsh Government and Business Wales’ Export Hub and from the Chamber’s trade team.
