- During the pandemic the community bank opened its new store on Cardiff Newport Road and will now launch its first local campaign in the city.
- The campaign, launching on 21 September, will feature local colleague Stuti Mudgal, a Customer Service Representative from the bank’s Newport Road store.
Metro Bank, the UK’s community bank, will launch a new local brand campaign in Cardiff to celebrate its renowned customer service. The bank is refreshing its first ever brand campaign that launched in January this year especially for the people of Cardiff. The campaign will celebrate the bank’s long-standing belief in “people-people banking” and features Stuti Mudgal, a local colleague from the bank’s Cardiff Newport Road store.
Metro Bank has two stores in the city, its Cardiff Queen Street store – which opened in January this year and Wales’ first drive-thru store on Newport Road which opened during the pandemic.
In line with Covid-19 guidelines, the bank was not able to host its usual grand opening celebrations but its new campaign will be seen on billboards across the city and is built on the bank’s philosophy that, whatever happens in the future of banking, people need people and value human relationships.
Along with opening its new store in Cardiff during the pandemic, the bank also kept all of its stores open when many high street banks reduced hours or even closed branches. Last month Metro Bank published new research revealing that three quarters (75%) of people living in Wales say banks have given up on the high street; this compares to 61% of people in the UK. The strength of feeling in Wales is higher than any other region in the UK.
The bank’s regional campaign aims to show local residents the bank’s points of difference and commitment to delivering outstanding customer service – in store, on the phone and digitally.
Stuti Mudgal, on being the face of the bank’s new campaign in Cardiff, says: “The campaign is a true reflection of the fact that we, Metro Bank colleagues, are the representatives of the bank and its success is dependent on us and what we do for our customers and the local community.
“I hope having real colleagues in the campaign makes it more authentic, as it is me who customers will see when they visit us in store and I can’t wait to say hello.”
Cardiff’s Newport Road store which opened in June, offers a drive-thru service, allowing customers to carry out cashier services from the comfort of their cars and completely contact-free.
Ian Walters, Managing Director, Distribution at Metro Bank said: “We’re delighted to be launching a local brand campaign in Cardiff, and to introduce a new local colleague and friendly face, Stuti, to the people of the city. This year it wasn’t possible to host our usual grand opening celebrations when we opened our Newport Road store but we still want to show residents what Metro Bank is about, that we’re open and ready to deliver amazing customer service.
“All our stores have remained open throughout the pandemic, and we’re proud to have opened a new drive-thru bank on Newport Road during this time, providing contact-free banking to the people of Cardiff for the first time ever.”
Metro Bank is committed to providing services in the Welsh language and has developed its own Welsh Language Charter including providing store signage in both Welsh and English. The bank gives all colleagues the opportunity to learn the language, and as they develop their skills Welsh speaking customers are able to easily identify fluent Welsh speakers and learners in store as they wear the Iaith Gwaith logo.
Metro Bank has 77 stores across the UK and prides itself on being a different kind of high street bank, serving its local communities – open when it suits its customers, seven days a week. This summer the bank celebrated its 10th birthday and over the past decade Metro Bank has been committed to hiring “people-people” with the upmost importance given to its renowned customer service.
