Chambers Wales South East, South West and Mid member TMPR has greatly benefitted from a course delivered by one of the Chamber’s partners. Cardiff Business School helps small businesses with practical, actionable learning to lead and deliver change through the Help to Grow: Management programme.
What is the Help to Grow programme?
Help to Grow: Management is a programme that supports senior managers and leaders of SMEs to boost their business’ performance resilience and long-term growth. Delivered by industry experts, the course helps businesses to enhance management and strategic capabilities, embed innovation into business practice, improve employee engagement and build resilience for future economic shocks.
Cardiff Business School, the world’s first public value business school and accredited with the Small Business Charter, delivers this practical management training programme and is set to welcome its 20th cohort in 2026.
Who has benefitted from the programme?
Louise Morgan, Founder and Director of Chamber member TMPR, has completed the course and believes that the knowledge she gained through the programme has propelled her company’s recent success.
TMPR is an agency that helps B2B brands communicate clearly, create meaningful content and connect with the people who matter most through full-service content creation, virtual marketing and channel communications. Operating since 2011, the agency has developed specialisms in communications for sectors such as construction, edtech and manufacturing.
Insights from Louise Morgan, Founder and Director of TMPR
“Weirdly it was a letter from HMRC that alerted me to the Help to Grow programme. At the time I thought it was too good to be true, I also didn’t think I could commit the time to attend a 12-week course. But I kept it on my list as something to look at…and when I eventually did, I wished I’d acted much sooner. Yes, it was a time commitment that I didn’t think I could afford. But after investing that time, I’ve since realised the real cost came from delaying getting involved.
“While Help to Grow is a UK-wide initiative, I chose to complete the programme at Cardiff University Business School – not only for its academic credentials, but for the importance it places on local business engagement.
“From day one the Help to Grow experience was reassuring, engaging and inspiring. It was the first time I’d stepped into a classroom in years, but Cardiff Business School is set up to support SME leaders in getting the most out of the programme and that includes making you feel welcome and at ease.
“Attending Help to Grow gave me headspace away from the day job to really think about where TMPR was going, and what the future could look like. It’s no coincidence that two years after taking part, we’ve grown as a business, moved into our own premises, and succeeded in creating a positive workplace culture. I might have been the one to attend, but the impact it’s had on the whole business is profound.
“If anyone is considering the programme, my biggest piece of advice is ‘be committed’. Prioritise the modules, the peer sessions and the mentoring as being business critical. It really is a case of ‘the more you put in, the more you get out’. And don’t be worrying that you’ll have assignments to complete, it’s structured to help you get the most out of the experience without having to do lots ‘extra’ outside of the scheduled sessions.
“The best thing you can do if you are considering the course is speak to alumni like myself, and if you think it is for you – don’t delay, book on the next available cohort and make it work!”
The next Help to Grow: Management cohort at Cardiff Business School begins on Wednesday 21 January 2026 and concludes on Wednesday 25 March. The course consists of a combination of online and face-to-face sessions for participants to progress the 12 modules and is 90% subsidised by the UK Government. Registration for January 2026 is now open.
