Cardiff father of two Tim Openshaw is no stranger to travelling. He worked in the finance world in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong for 23 years and his patch was New Zealand to Dubai. But now he’s on a completely different journey with no planes, trains or automobiles involved this time – he’s going to walk around the entire Welsh Coastal path. He aims to walk round Wales in 80 days, covering a total of 870 miles.
“I’m doing it to raise money for Velindre Cancer Center in Cardiff. I don’t think there’s a family in Wales that’s unaffected in some way by cancer. Velindre are leaders in the field of cancer care and treatment here, so in doing this, I hope that it will make a real difference to some families in Wales.
‘I’ve had great support and encouragement from family and friends – although I’m sure some think that I’m a bit mad to do something like this, especially in September, October and November!
‘It’s been really good too to have the support of Chambers Wales. I look forward to meeting as many Chambers members as possible along the way. Come to meet me for a chat and by all means walk with me if you want to!’
Since coming back from the Far East, Tim co-founded St Davids World – a social online platform that links Welsh people throughout the world. It has over 700 different groupings of global Welsh on it already, less than a year since it was formed. Details of his walk will be on the St Davids World website. So if you would like to know when Tim is in your area, the website will tell you.
If you would like to support Tim’s walk by donating to Velindre, then you can do so through the Around Wales in 80 days Just Giving page.
‘Velindre really need to be supported in every way possible. Walking this walk is the least I can do to help contribute to the funds that are so essential to the treatment that they offer to so many in Wales.’
